Cat & Dog Checkups
At Fine Animal Hospital, our vets offer dog and cat checkups (routine exams) to focus on preventive care. With these routine exams, we can help ensure your pet is in good health.
Pet Checkup & Preventive Care
You can help your pet maintain great long-term physical health by bringing them in for a regular routine exam.
Combined with proper nutrition, regular vaccinations and parasite prevention, these routine checkups include regular physical examinations to offer your pet the best chance at good lifelong health.
When we see your pet for their regular checkup, we're often able to prevent health issues from developing in your pet, or catch them early, when they are most treatable.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical
The vet will give your pet a thorough physical checkup to get a complete picture of his or her overall health. An exam includes the following elements:
General Condition
Your vet can learn about your pet's overall health from his or her physical condition and general demeanour. Their level of alertness, whether they are a healthy weight for their size and how they stand and walk are all important indicators of overall physical health.
Coat & Skin
Signs of health issues will often appear in an animal's skin or coat. We'll check for lumps, bumps, excessive dryness or oiliness, shedding, abnormal hair loss or dandruff.
Face & Head
Your pet's ears, eyes and nose will be inspected for discharge or abnormalities. We will also examine the mouth for signs of oral health issues such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.
Internal Health
Pulse, heart rhythm and rate, and blood pressure are all vitally important to your pet's cardiac health. These will be tested to ensure they're normal. Your vet will then examine your lungs for evidence of abnormal breathing.
Since lymph nodes often become swollen or painful as a result of health conditions, these will be checked along with the abdomen. We will ensure the kidneys, spleen, liver, bladder, intestines and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not showing any signs of discomfort.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
To help them get off to a healthy start, puppies and kittens need diligent medical attention in their first few weeks.
Your new best friend will receive a complete physical examination from the vet, along with deworming medication and appropriate immunizations. During puppy or kitten checkups, they'll also be tested for intestinal parasites.
You'll receive a puppy or kitten kit full of educational material and samples to help you care for the newest member of your family.
Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns about caring for your new pet, both during your appointments or following your visits.
Once we've assessed your pet at their initial appointment, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Checkups for Seniors Dogs & Cats
Recent advances in veterinary medical care and knowledge, in addition to better nutrition and newer therapies have resulted in our senior pets living longer than ever. Taking your pet to regular examinations will help ensure their continuing health and longevity as they age.
In addition to routine wellness care we provide all adult pets, special attention will be given to your senior pet's potential age-related conditions, such as decreased vision or arthritis. Additional laboratory tests can also yield more information about your pet's overall health.
Vaccinations & Prevention
Is your pet due for a physical exam? During pet checkup, the veterinarian will also look into whether they need preventive care, or if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
